In this project I wanted to put the olfactory qualities of natural materials in the foreground. After many experiments I decided to make a food-related object.
I designed a steamer made of heat resistant borosilicate glass with exchangable wooden floors. This gives freedom for experimentation with different woods and the aromas they give to the food, triggering curiosity and experimentation with recipes. There is also one neutral wood, bamboo, which is used in traditional asian steam pots.
The set comprises of three different compartments for different amounts of food, a water pot and a dome shaped lid, preventing the water from dripping on the food.
The glass allows the process of steaming to be visible, providing an intriguing image.
